What a handsome devil

Today my baby boy turns 3 years old. I can't believe how the time has flown by. He has changed so much from that tiny baby we brought home from the hospital and so much has happened in his short life. He weighed only 5 lbs 14 oz when he came home from the hospital. He had be be place on UV lights for 4 days at home to help his tiny body get rid of the excess bilirubin. It was scary because his bilirubin numbers kept going up when they should have been going down. I had to take him into the hospital everyday for 7 days to get his heels pricked for the lab draw to check his bilirubin level. I was unable to hold my baby for 4 days, while he was on the lights, except to feed him. Eventually everything turned out good and he was able to get off the lights.
When he was 6 months old he was diagnosed with RSV. Luckily he never had to be hospitalized. I would just sit and hold him and cry. I would stay up with him at night to make sure he continued breathing good through out the night. We had to give him albuterol nebulizers to help open his airway and help him breath better. You could tell that he didn't feel good because he would just sit on my lap and breath in the medication. The last couple of days that he was on the nebulizer, I had to pin him down to get him to do the breathing treatment. He eventually got over the RSV but his lungs have never been the same. Last March he was officially diagnosed with asthma. He doesn't have the typical type of asthma with the wheezing; his is more of an inflammation process. He would cough all the time and cough so hard it would make him throw up. It was so sad. His pediatrician said it is not uncommon for infants who have had RSV to get childhood asthma and that he may grow out of it. He is taking Flovent inhaler twice a day and what a difference that has made. He rarely has coughing attacks anymore and when he does we use an albuterol inhaler. For the most part Kyle does not mind "taking" his medicine. We make a game out of it.
He has grown into a healthy little boy. He is now a SOLID 37 pounds and he is ALL BOY. He loves cars, trucks, dirt, animals, dinosaurs, anything that can get him dirty, etc. He is a happy kid that loves to play, run and wrestle with his dad. He is his dad's shadow. He loves it when dad is home. Whenever Steve is at work all I hear all day long is "Where's Dad?". He loves watching the old animated Spider man, Batman, Superman, and GI Joe with Steve. It is so funny to watch both Steve and Kyle watching the cartoons. They both have the little kid grin while they are watching. He has the cutest little giggle and he is such a happy kid. I love him so much and feel truly blessed that I can be his mother.
Happy Birthday Kyle

Time goes by so fast doesn't it? It seems like they're babies one day and little boys the next. What a cute picture that is of him getting a bath! Tell him happy birthday! By the way, that pool we swam at is in North Ogden. It's really fun. There's a place similar in Roy to, and I know there's one in Orem. I don't know if there's anything like it in Salt Lake County.
There is nothin' wrong with bring a young boy up right with good cartoons (she forgot transformers).
haha

I can't believe how fast our kids are growing up! I forgot that Kyle and Mason are so close in age... What happened to our babies?? Although I am not sure that I would go back... If Kyle is anything like Mason, then you are getting the biggest kick out of him right now!! :)
Cute pictures monica. I love the one with him playing in the water puddle. Time is just flying by so fast. You have such a cute family.
